Do you have fond memories of sloppy joes from

your childhood?


It is the ultimate quick, tasty, family friendly

weeknight meal.  Unfortunately, that canned

sauce is full of preservatives, sugar, and sodium.


Let's add some extra fresh veggies to a

homemade sauce and make this a much

healthier version for our family.


It might take a little extra time for

preparation but it is great for leftovers and can

even be frozen for another busy night.




1 lb Lean ground beef or turkey

1/2 cup Bone Broth (or stock)

1 clove Garlic, crushed

1 medium Onion, minced

1 Carrot, minced

1 Red Bell Pepper, minced

4 oz Mushroom, minced

1 tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar

1/4 cup Tomato Paste

1 tsp Salt

1/2 tsp Pepper

1 tsp Paprika

1 tsp Cumin

1 tsp Dry Mustard




1. Brown meat in a large skillet.

2. Add vegetables and bone broth, cooking on

medium heat until vegetables soften.

3. Add tomato paste, vinegar, and spices. Stir

together well.

4. Cover mixture and simmer for 20 minutes.

5. Stir and serve meat on rolls or lettuce cups.


*You can also serve this alone, or over rice,

sweet potatoes, white potatoes, pasta, or
